Alfyan Magic Academy, Front Gates January 7, 1623 - 8:00AM
----------
It was one of those mornings when snow had fallen all throughout the night. Even with all the preparations they did to shield the growing crops from it, some getting a bit of frost couldn't be avoided. It took most of the early morning to tend to the plants, Leifiel and his parents finishing just before his first class started. He didn't have time for breakfast, but he couldn't risk breaking his perfect attendance (so far), so he left home for the academy with only a baked sweet potato to eat on the way.
Going through the streets of Seria was rather difficult for Leifiel; the air was bad as usual, worse around the residential blocks. Heating was needed and it didn't need a genius to figure out how many heaters were operational. Flying through that smog would be suicidal; it didn't help to make his mood any lighter.
Leifiel pulled his scarf higher to his nose and continued on towards the academy's gates. Right now, he should get inside the building so he could get into the classroom. And finally finish his breakfast.

Standing along the road that Liefel was going to have to walk to make it to school on time was a woman his age. She was dressed warmly, in a thick dress with a coat. Her red eyes were piercing behind the stark white background of the snow covered campus, her black hair a visible smudge upon it's perfection.
Though none of this was as attention grabbing as the fact she appeared to be talking to thin air, not making a sound.

Really, Leifiel wanted no more than to use his magic wings because it's faster than walking over the slippery walkways. But would he risk exposing himself to the unhealthy (more than usual) air? He'll never hear the end of it from his father!
Anyone who might've gotten the idea to greet the little redhead were immediately spurned away by the unhappy scowl on his face. Not that he cared; he wasn't in the mood for socializing anywa---
...there was steam...or was it mist?
---Leifiel froze in midstep, his eyes turning gold for a brief moment.
figures too hazy to identify 24, 11, 27, 19...?
That passed, leaving Leifiel blinking his back-to-normal red eyes. He groaned as he shook his head and then continued on, grumbling as he went.
Inside the campus, he spotted something so out of place against the snowy background. A closer look told him that it was her and she was doing that thing again. Whatever that was.

Whoever or whatever she was talking to, she seemed amused by it, chuckling noiselessly as she continued conversation. If Lief knew how to lipread, he might catch snatches of what she was 'saying' to the invisible conversation partner.
She'd glance over to him as Lief approached, and would wave slightly to him in a polite greeting.

She was talking, even though she was very well-known to be mute. She couldn't possibly be insane, could she? Leifiel had wondered about that before and occasionally whenever he sees her during some of her 'conversations'. That couldn't be the case, however; after all, how could she be admitted into the academy in the first place?
Normally he'd have brushed it off and pay no more attention, but she was outright making a solid conversation, albeit one-sided...or is it? Leifiel didn't return the greeting wave and instead said, "Are you quite done, Amilia Orenda? You'll be late." Even though that means he would be too.

Amilia would give a tiny start and look up at the clock tower. "!" Upon seeing the time, she'd be visibly concerned about being late and turn to her invisible companion, mouthing a farewell and then looking to Liefiel. <Thank you, let's go.> She'd tell him in sign, before turning to head to the building itself.

Leifiel didn't look amused when Amilia gave a tiny start at the time. Typical, he thought, his eyebrow twitching. Something looked rather interesting though; she appeared to be talking to something invisible. Oh, great...It's possible that she has one of those 'invisible friends', like the ones he'd heard psychiatry students once talked about.
At least she moved. Leifiel went on inside the building ahead of her.
Inside the warm entrance hall of the academy, Leifiel's bag started wriggling until the flap opened and out hopped a small pink ball-shaped mini-clockwork. He caught it in his hand, asked for his schedule and started heading for the classroom (while eating the baked sweet potato that he'd reheated with a heated air spell).
Oh, wonderful. Botany.

Amilia would head off for her own class, Demonology, which was right next door to Lief's, so they'd encounter one another on their way to their next two classes, which they shared. She was quiet, and not just because she was mute. She often didn't have much to say to those around her, though when addressed, she would reply to the best of her ability.
She would stop to admire the little clockwork in Lief's hand. She'd always thought it adorable.

Just when he thought he'd seen the last of defrosting frozen plants at the farm this morning, he had Botany classes for today. Leifiel couldn't help but groan because that meant he might have to use more magic than he was planning to. On top of that, he hadn't had a proper breakfast this morning. The little redhead went deep into thought, trying to come up with an efficient plan to last him until lunchtime. The mini-clockwork (aptly named 'Mr. Pink') flapped its arm covers, all the while beeping rather merrily, oblivious to its owner's annoyance. That is, until the bell rang.
Swearing under his breath, Leifiel finished the rest of his sweet potato and got into class.
----- 3 hours later -----
It wasn't as bad as Leifiel had initially thought. It turned out to be cold enough to cause the professor to change the lesson to a lecture. While he disapproved of lazy professors, Leifiel himself wasn't too keen on defrosting some more plants. After learning the various plants that can provide warmth in cold climates, the class was dismissed.
Leifiel checked his schedule again for his next class, which turned out to be: Advanced Arcana.
Well, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, or so he hoped as he left the classroom...

Amilia would smile at the clockwork before stepping into her classroom, giggling silently.
--- 3 hours later ---[/i]
Her own class had gone well, they were summoning imps that day. Sadly she couldn't take part because the summoning required somatic components she did not have, so instead she simply observed and read up on defense against them and the various different kinds.
Once her own class was over, 30 minutes early because one of the students got hit with a small detonation because they smudged the summoning line and had to be carted off to the infirmity, she'd recall Lief's state before his class.
She'd be waiting outside his classroom door with a small parcel once his own class ended, hailing him down for his attention before he got away.

To get to the Advanced Arcana class, the students would have to go to west wing of the academy. It's a particularly long walk from where Leifiel's and Amilia's classes were, which could be rectified by flight...Which is something Leifiel couldn't utilize at the moment, seeing as he had to conserve his energy for arcana lessons.
He really should've taken two of those sweet potatoes this morning, he thought grumpily as he passed by the Demonology class...and then paused when that hand wouldn't stop waving at him. When he found out who it was, he didn't look amused. "What is the matter, Amilia Orenda?" Leifiel asked in a grumpy tone.

It took some doing, seeing as she couldn't make any noise, but finally he addressed her. She'd tuck the parcel on her arm and awkwardly try to sign. <For you.>
She'd hand the parcel to him and, with now freed hands, would explain. <You aren't the type to be eating just before class, so I assumed you missed breakfast and might have been hungry. My class let out early so I grabbed you a lunch. I hope you're not allergic to anything in it.> She'd give him a sincere smile, honestly just wanting to help her grumpy classmate. Especially since she wasn't sure if he had any friends or not. She didn't either, really, though she tried to be nice to everyone.

When the parcel was offered to him, Leifiel ended up staring at it for quite a while before gingerly taking it with one hand. What was the parcel for, he thought as he inspected it with a very scrutinizing eye. It didn't look anything special; it was just that: a parcel.
Amilia got to explaining, which caused Leifiel to stare at her next. His expression was unreadable, save for the wrinkling of his eyebrows into his usual scowl. Did she really...?
"...That was unnecessary." he replied, handing the unopened parcel back to her. "Hurry up or you will be late." he added as he started to head for the west wing.

Amilia would press it forward to him until he took it, and then explain her reasoning. When he tried to hand it back to her, she frowned gently, and refused to reach out and claim it back, instead shaking her head.
<No. It's for you. I went all the way to the cafeteria on the other side of the campus to get this for you so you could eat and not be late.> She'd still frown at him gently, not understanding why he was refusing her good will.

She wouldn't take it back, even when he'd said that he didn't want it. What part of 'it wasn't unnecessary' she couldn't understand? That and she got the part where he hadn't had breakfast wrong. He did, but not something most would consider 'enough'. He'd argue to the bitter end about it if pressed.
He really didn't have enough time for this, and yet the woman was insisting that he eat. "I am telling you again, this is unnecessary, Amilia Orenda." Leifiel insisted, adding cold emphasis on her name as he pushed the parcel back towards her. "I do not need it." Some students have noticed their monaural exchange and some have already stayed back and watching...
