"Well, that was anti-climactic!" Dylan chuckled after Leifiel gave him his findings. A storage room, really! "What are the odds that this room was used as a prison...or something? Hey, you never know, right?" he added when the kid glared at him.
"All right, all right. Storage room until we find more clues that says otherwise!" Dylan said with a self-conscious cough as he exited the room and went straight into kicking the door facing opposite the room they're in open. In true police-action man fashion.

"What were you expecting?" Leifiel asked, his expression that of horror and disbelief. He couldn't believe that Dylan had actually thought of a worse purpose for the empty room! "Enough of that! I will not hear of it!" Especially when he's in an abandoned tunnel underneath the city late at night. His father was probably worried about him by now.
Leifiel's glaring eyes followed after Dylan as the latter exited the room, and cringed when the second door outside was kicked open. "Are you mad?!" he yelled after Dylan, running out of the room until he caught up with him. "Why did you do that?!"

Why did he do that indeed? The now-open door swung back and forth after Dylan kicked it, its hinges creaky from disuse. Leifiel's questions rang in his ears.
"Speeding things up." came Dylan's reply, his voice sounding somewhat strained, frustrated even. "I'd like to explore this place as much as we can before it gets too late." That's the downside of having Leifiel to accompany him; despite his age, the kid is still required to follow curfew. What a load of horse crap!
He peeked into the room, pushing the door out of his way...and was nearly dazzled by the amount of gold piled up inside. "Ohoho...Now we're talking!" Dylan said as he made to proceed further inside.

That did sound plausible. The faster they moved, the sooner they'd be able to leave. After all, Leifiel had just thought about his father just a moment ago. Still, the kick wasn't exactly quiet; the cavern echoed.
"I'll accept that reasoning, but do take caution next time; you could alert guards to our location!" Leifiel said crossly as Dylan started to perform a room sweep. For some reason, something doesn't seem right with this room.
He got a clear view of the room when Dylan moved inside. Treasure? Well, that solidified his theory about the first room to be a storage room. However...
Leifiel saw it. Wasting no time, he quickly reached out with both hands to grab anything he could from Dylan's back and pulled him away. It wasn't easy as Dylan is much heavier than he is. In fact, Leifiel had to throw his entire weight just to try and stop him.

Ooh, treasure! Think of all the steak he could buy with all those loot!
If only all of it were true...
Something grabbed him from behind just as Dylan was about to take an immediate step back...Just in time to see something flash by right in front of him. That was expected, but that other thing he didn't expect, he thought as he fell backwards. He dug one of his heels hard unto the floor behind him, catching his balance just in time to stop himself from crushing Leifiel.
"...Seriously, kid? You thought I didn't know it was a trap?" Dylan said, still in that awkward position. "You really should give me more credit!"
"Aaaand can you let go of my hair already? Ouch."

How could the steak-loving maniac not seen it?! It was blatantly obvious that a trap had been set! Leifiel could even see the source of the illusion planted on the floor! This man is unfit to be a magi---
---Oh, right. Human. A magically-inept Human.
Leifiel had tried to stop Dylan, unaware that the latter knew what was going on, so much that he made to grab whatever he could (which happened to be Dylan's ponytail) and pulled with all his might. Lucky for Dylan that Leifiel wasn't physically strong to begin with or he'd have an immediate hair problem right now...
The little redhead clearly hadn't thought this particular thing through and he blamed Dylan for it. The realization that there's a possibility of the significantly bigger man falling on top of him came late, but what could Leifiel do? He's not about to have someone die while he's around to stop it!
Fortunately for him, Dylan caught himself before he toppled over and Leifiel could literally feel his cheeks turn red at the comment. So he KNEW? The little redhead twitched in annoyance.
"Oh, really?" Leifiel huffed as he stepped away from Dylan. "Then sorry for trying to keep you alive!" he added, giving Dylan's ponytail a yank before letting it go.

Even though that yank didn't do much to make him lose his balance, that still hurt. Dylan couldn't help but laugh at Leifiel's little outburst. "Awww~ You're so cute when you're grumpy!" he teased, giving the kid a playful wink as he got up to his feet. That little stunt did do a little number on his knees though. Dylan gave his legs a little shake as they felt a little numb.
"But of course, I knew there was a trap." Dylan started explaining as he retied his hair back into its usual ponytail. Kid sure has quite a grip! "What we don't know is where. What's the quickest way to find it? Go straight through it, of course!"
"Now that we know where it is..." Dylan then walked to the side of the doorway, felt around until he found a lever. "It makes it so much easier to disarm it!" There was an audible 'click' when he pulled the lever, followed by a few grinding sounds (and a lot of dust falling).

"Awww~ You're so cute when you're grumpy!"
Leifiel glared at Dylan at that teasing comment, as if trying to will the other to just drop down dead. How dare he make fun of him even after the little redhead had shown him some concern! "Don't mock me." he told Dylan with a still and icy tone, an indication that he wasn't the least bit amused.
And Dylan's logic still doesn't make any sense!
The little redhead watched as Dylan disarmed the trap, his nose wrinkling as the moving mechanism released a lot of dust. However, even with the amount of dust that clouded his view, Leifiel noticed something glow on the tiles Dylan had stood on when he first entered the room. There were curved lines carved onto the floor tiles, forming a stylized circle that pulsed with magical energies. As the trap was being disarmed, the tiles shook before they broke off from each other, breaking the circle into pieces. As the circuit was broken, the magical glow disappeared.
That must be the trigger, Leifiel observed as he stepped inside the now safe room and started his own investigation. With a brighter light source, they could now see what was really inside the room. Aside from the illusion of a treasure pile, there were contraptions installed into two opposing sides of the wall that would fire sharp projectiles at anyone unfortunate to fall for the trick.
"Hmph, I'll give you that much credit." Leifiel said to Dylan with a huff. "Ingrate."

Oh, there goes the kid again, all grumpy and cute. He really should lighten up even for a little bit! Dylan scratched the back of his head, chuckled and went to join Leifiel at the middle of the room. However, his steps seemed to be a little slower at the moment...
"Aw, come on...Don't be like that!" Dylan said, trying to appease the kid. He then paused, looking down at his legs. For some reason, they still felt numb. If they were just overworked for a moment, they should be all right by now.
"That's funny." Dylan said as he gave his legs a little shake and the strange feeling persisted. "My foot...It's kind of hard to move..."

Dylan just wouldn't get it! Leifiel's temper rose at the militia man's attempt to pacify him. If he really wanted that to happen, he should offer some potatoes as tribute! Hmp! And now Dylan was complaining about his leg.
"Of course it would be!" Leifiel started yelling at Dylan trying to drill the possibility that he could've died a moment ago into his brain. "Do you even have the slightest clue of what you've just stepped on?!" He angrily jabbed his index finger at the broken magic tile. "THAT is a binding trap! It's supposed to stop your movement; the perfect application for this trap!"
"So you see, Mr. I-Can-See-Traps-With-My-Eyes-Closed, the trap you'd just discovered is more complicated than it looks!" Leifiel took a deep breath before he continued, "Why don't you take a good long look at that very tile that could've taken your li---Huh?" He paused in mid-rant because he caught a glimpse of a peculiar object wedged through the open cracks of the magic tile.
Curious, Leifiel crouched over the tile and reached over to pull out a circular object. Shining his wandlight over his find, he found out that it was a dusty old coin. "Hmm...A dusty old coin." he muttered as he inspected it. "Who'd have thought something like this is wedged into a trap tile?"
"Coincidence? Or---?"

Oh... Oh! OH. Well, that explained it.
"I'll have to admit..." Dylan replied, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. "Since it's magic, I couldn't possibly have figured it out by myself. After all, magic isn't one of my strong points, you know!"
The kid's ranting was cut short when he'd pointed at the trap tile; Dylan saw it too. "Well, now THAT I can see." he said as Leifiel took out the dusty old coin-looking...thing.
"A coin?" Dylan asked, walking (with some difficulty) to meet up with Leifiel. "Could it be that this room was a treasure trove back then?"

"I'm not too sure." Leifiel answered, his initial anger at Dylan gone now due to the emergence of a mystery item. But he's not off the hook yet! "Although this coin---" He turned the coin in his hand again. "---doesn't seem like it's made for---" He turned it again. "---monetary purposes. I'll need time to appraise this."
//Although, it's hidden directly under the trap tile itself.// Leifiel started thinking as he stared at the coin in his hand. //Very clever, if I have to say so myself. Could this coin be actually more valuable than it looks?//

The kid said that he'd need time to appraise the dusty old thing. Now that is not Dylan's field, so he didn't object to the suggestion. "All right, you do that." he told Leifiel as he looked around the room. "In the meantime, I'll *ahem* 'sweep' this dusty room!"
Leifiel was too busy with his appraising thing to notice his little pun; Dylan felt ignored...and it hurt.
Even with his numb foot, Dylan went about giving the room another check to see if they've missed a detail. And he ended up with nothing. "What? Nothing?" Dylan said, sounding disappointed. "Not even a trap door or a trick wall! It's just an empty, boring dead-end! What a letdown this is!"
"Oh, well." Dylan walked over to one of the walls where the trap had shot the sharp pointed projectiles and plucked out about ten of them. "Ugh, talk about overkill! Whoever designed this must've made sure no one could ever survive this trap!" He turned to look at the kid. "Never factored us in though!" At least he got some specimens to study later; the projectiles weren't a joke.

Leifiel was too busy appraising the coin to notice or even acknowledge all the noise Dylan was making. He'd need to concentrate; good thing he'd had practiced scrying in Divination class earlier today!
The dusty old coin looked like what it is: a dusty old coin. Leifiel tried to rub off some of the gathered dirt from the coin's surface and he could make out some of the engraving. However, even with that, it was still too vague to properly identify.
//It's a simple old coin...// Leifiel thought as he continued studying it. But he had a feeling that there's something else more to it. Why else would it be hidden underneath a trap, of all places? He decided to focus more onto his task.
//I know this coin isn't what it seems...It's more than it looks! Unless my eyes deceive me...//
//...But!//
"MY EYES CANNOT BE DECEIVED!" Leifiel shouted in resolve, his eyes turning bright gold as he dove deeper into the coin's very being.
