----- Flashback -----
It wasn't as if he'd leave the kid all by himself inside that old well!
Dylan kept a tight hold to the rope tied to the bucket, which he'd used as a platform for their descent, as they dropped into the depths. Of course, he also kept his hold around Leifiel's torso secure. Wouldn't want him falling or something...Or else Tellycra would finally have an excuse to have his head on a plate!
Then there was a big splash.
----- End of Flashback -----
Dylan whistled ever-so-casually as he, with Leifiel in tow, headed for the very same old well. Good thing most of the residents were already indoors for dinner, something that made Dylan a little envious. But that would have to wait. Not when the kid gave him the perfect opportunity.
Like before, Dylan climbed onto the old well's edge, got one foot into the bucket and then jumped.

----- Flashback -----
The fall to the bottom of the well certainly made Leifiel speechless, save for the initial scream on the way down. When they've hit water, the little redhead was stunned, eyes blinking before he started sputtering and coughing to get the water out of his mouth. After that, came the death glare...
Needless to say, Dylan got a series of intense berating from the wet and disgruntled chick. And from the chick's angry mother when he took Leifiel home later. Fo'lleafe found the whole thing hilarious though!
----- End of Flashback -----
And to think that he'd thought Dylan had learned his lesson back then! Then again, Dylan wasn't the type to learn from anything, according to Leifiel, so it really shouldn't be a surprise that the thick-headed, steak-loving maniac would be at it again.
Up the old well's edge and then jump into the well; it was just like before...Only it was Winter and not rainy October, the water in the well would be frozen...What is Dylan trying to do this time?
The crashing sound that would've signaled that they've hit the bottom didn't come. Instead, the rope went taut before it was supposed to and their descent came to a sudden halt. Leifiel felt the wind knocked out of him.

Unknown to Leifiel, Dylan had inspected the old well before and had shortened the rope by tying a big knot on it. That's why their trip down the well was shorter than before.
The kid appeared to be wondering about that...Well, he'll know soon enough.
"Oi, kid." Dylan called to Leifiel, shaking the kid a little to see he hadn't passed out or anything. That would throw a wrench at tonight's plans a bit. "You all right there?"

It would appear that they'd stopped mere inches from the frozen surface of the well's bottom. Why did that happen? Leifiel couldn't help but wonder that. Something...didn't seem right.
"You all right there?"
Leifiel's head turned slowly to look at Dylan. The nerve of him to ask that, when he was the one who jumped into the well! "You think I am all right?" he repeated, his tone and glare cold as the ice below them. "Did you seriously think I am all right?"

Dylan chuckled at Leifiel's response. Cold as usual! "Mhm, you're definitely all right~" he quipped as he hopped out of the bucket and onto the ice. He set Leifiel down and onto his feet and then started to look up the well's sides. The scenery from within the well looked so dreary.
"Now, now..." Dylan started to explain to the kid. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions, but let's save them for later! I'm sure you're wondering what's going on and why we're really here, right?"
As he talked, Dylan was feeling his hand all over the stone walls and he found what he was looking for. He slipped his fingers into the hidden cracks and then pried a section of the wall off.

Finally, he was back onto his feet. Leifiel didn't like being carried like he was some sort of baggage. He did have to keep his footing firm as he was standing on ice...
"Yes, I do have questions." Leifiel wasn't the least bit amused, even as Dylan tried to assure him. "And I want them now!"
When Dylan got a section of the wall off, however, Leifiel was surprised. What in the world...?
"What...are you doing?" He was genuinely curious, and alarmed to see that happen.

In Dylan's hands was a fairly large and curved square-shaped stone block, with a thickness of around 6 inches, and designed to match the old well's wall. Obviously a curious sight to someone like Leifiel, but there was something more curious: the hole the panel was covering.
The square-shaped hole was barely enough for someone of Dylan's size to crawl in. Arguably, it would make sense, considering the size of the well itself. Dylan set the panel down, resting it against the well's wall, and dusted his gloved hands together.
"Opening the door, what else?" Dylan said in response to Leifiel's question. Now that he got the kid's attention, things should go smoothly now. "I found out about this the last time we were here." he continued, peering into the hole carefully. "Looks pretty old and I doubt anyone knew about this..Save for the ones who built this in the first place, that is!"
"So, want to go exploring before dinner?" he asked with a wink.

Curious indeed. Almost like magic, the contemptuous glare Leifiel had for Dylan disappeared...Albeit not fully. As interested as he was upon seeing the secret entrance within the old well, he couldn't help but feel a little suspicious. Just like Dylan had said, the passageway looked old, very old...and Leifiel had heard nothing about it from other people, not even from hearsay.
The hole was more than big enough for Leifiel to fit in, even if he had to crawl on all fours. At least it wouldn't be a very tight fit, unlike Dylan's case. Being small certainly has its advantages! Leifiel tried to peer into the entrance, but couldn't make out anything; it was too dark.
Leifiel took out his wand, gave it a quick flick and made the tip glow. Now with a source of light, he took another peek inside the entrance and found a tunnel. "Hm." he muttered as he studied his options. Dangerous it may be, but if it was something forgotten by the cityfolk...
dark shrouds snowflakes falling twists and turns flakes all a flurry the depths of the forgotten cut by a streak of green...
Leifiel grunted as his hand went up to the side of his head. It felt like he'd seen this before! "I'm going." he suddenly declared as he almost-immediately climbed into the tunnel, leaving Dylan behind.

He was expecting to do some more convincing on Leifiel. In fact, he was just about to say the next round of reasons when Leifiel said that he was going in, and even climbed into the tunnel by himself. Dylan was left staring at the entrance, dumbstruck.
He shook himself back to reality. "Well, that was easy..." Dylan muttered and then yelled into the tunnel. "Oi, kid! Don't go wandering off on your own! You hear me?!"
"Ah, dammit!" Dylan cursed to himself as he climbed into the tunnel and went after Leifiel.
"...Sheesh, I hate being big sometimes..." As Dylan had discovered, the tunnel proved to be rather...tight.

Not minding the fact that he'd just jumped headfirst into unknown territory (and that he'd left his potential bodyguard behind), Leifiel continued to crawl his way through the tunnel. From the damp, musty and filthy state the tunnel was in, he could safely assume that it hadn't been used in ages.
dark shrouds twists and turns the depths of the forgotten
Leifiel paused, wincing as the memories of the vision from this morning flashed in his mind. Why was he even here? He could be at home by now, enjoying a hot meal! But no, this could lead to a discovery, something that had been left behind by time. If Dylan was right this time...
The end of the tunnel was in sight; Leifiel quickened his pace and climbed out, finding himself in a dark room. He raised his wandlight above his head, turning up the brightness a bit and gasped in surprise when a flock of bats came descending towards him...

"Nngh...Damn that kid---"
"I said *grunt* not to go---"
"---*phew* off on his own!"
"*grumblegrumble* Aw, come ON!"
Dylan grunted as he pulled himself through the tunnel, after appearing to have gotten his coat stuck for a moment. He paused to take a short breather, keeping in mind not to go exploring tight tunnels when wearing thick layers of clothing. That...is a little too late for him now.
"Now where did he go?" he muttered as he tried to look ahead of him, trying to catch a glimpse of the wandlight. He didn't think Leifiel would be fast crawling through the tunnel...Then again, he was considerable smaller than he was!
"I just hope that kid hasn't gotten himself in trouble---!"

Naturally, he was underground now. It was expected to be dark, dingy, musty and full of all sorts of unpleasant smells and feels. Also, one couldn't---shouldn't---rule out the possibility of the underground structure to be inhabited. Unfortunately for Leifiel, that possibility slipped out of his mind.
Amidst the screeching cave bats, Leifiel could do nothing but shield his face with his arms as he kept a firm hold on his wandlight. He'd whip the wand from side to side in an attempt to drive the bats away from him, thinking the light would disorient them.
He stepped back as he continued to drive the bats away from him while concentrating on a spell. At the final syllable of the incantation, Leifiel raised his wand up and suddenly a stream of fire erupted from below his feet and spiraled around him, burning around ten of the bats and scattering the rest. However, it didn't look like they were scared away completely...

"How far---"
"---does this---"
"---tunnel go?!"
Dylan felt like he was crawling through the tunnel for ages already, when in reality, it wasn't even that long since he'd climbed into the entrance. The effort just made it seem longer. "Dammit, when I find that kid, I'm going to have to ta---"
The tunnel suddenly lit up ahead of him, alarming Dylan. Something could've happened to Leifiel...If it was and the kid got hurt, he'll never forgive himself! With that thought in mind, Dylan fiercely started to pull himself through the tunnel.
He finally reached the end of the tunnel and was greeted by the source of the light: Leifiel was surrounded by a flaming twister and there were charred remains of what looked like bats lying on the ground around him. Dylan cursed under his breath when he caught movement high up in the air above them and saw a horde of bats swarming together.
Dylan pulled out one of his handguns from his belt and fired a shot at the forming swarm.

The bats didn't seem to give up as easily as he'd hoped they would. Leifiel then started on a follow-up spell, causing the spiraling stream of fire that formed a defensive wall around him to shoot up unto the tip of his wand. Then with a wave of his arm forward, he sent the stream of fire like a fiery whip at the bats, just in time as that gunshot rang.
The sound echoed through the room that, coupled with the fire whip, it broke up the swarm of bats and finally drove them away. Sensing that there was someone else, one with a weapon no less, was in the room with him, Leifiel then sent the fire whip towards that person...who turned out to be Dylan.
Surprised, Leifiel immediately cancelled the spell, pointed the wandlight at Dylan and then started to yell at him. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"

Heaving a sigh, Dylan lowered his handgun after Leifiel cancelled his fire spell, even though the kid nearly attacked him with it. That was close!
Dylan stared at Leifiel as the latter had the nerve to ask him that question. The look on the militia man's face was unamused. "Look, kid..." he started, heaving another sigh as he rubbed his temples. "I told you not to go off on your own; come on, there're two of us for a reason!"
"We're in this together, whether you like it or not!"
