Leifiel returned the unamused look on Dylan's face with one of his own, albeit with a tinge of defiance. There were so many things wrong in what Dylan had just said that he could point out to the steak-loving maniac. In fact, he would point a few of them out.
"One: You did not tell me that." Leifiel replied, counting with his fingers. "Two: I still don't know why you picked this hour to do this! And three: You are unfit to be my exploration partner because of your carelessness!"

Oh, this kid is adorable. Dylan chuckled and started laughing; he knew Leifiel was already in his 20s, but his appearance...He just kept confusing the latter as a kid. Leifiel's temper wasn't helping any of them either.
"Oh, boy." Dylan said once the laughing stopped. "Is this how it's going to be, huh?" He then started replying, counting with his fingers n the same style as Leifiel had done. "One: I did, only you didn't bother to stop and listen. Two: This is the only time when we can't be seen by people. And three: My gun just drove off those bats your fancy-shmancy fire failed to do! The way I see it, I'm more than qualified~" He leaned forward, staring right at Leifiel's eyes, and added with a wink, "You just won't admit it!"

The round of laughter earned Dylan an irritated glare from Leifiel, which narrowed further (if that was even possible) when the militia man started to counter his complaints. Damn, was he spot on, but the little redhead wasn't about to admit to a loss.
"One: You should've said all that much earlier!" Leifiel retorted rather fiercely, his eyes boring straight into Dylan's. If the steak-loving maniac thought that he would be distracted by the invasion of his personal space, then he's badly mistaken! "Two: An advance invitation would've been very much appreciated! And lastly: I was not finished! Not yet! You have a knack for showing up when you're not needed!"

Leifiel is tenacious. Dylan could only scratch the back of his head in disbelief as the possibility of them engaging in an endless debate loomed over them. If he had a timetable thought out at the start of this little plan, that timetable was flung out the figurative window. The kid really hates losing.
"Come on, kid..." Dylan said, not getting fazed from the intense scrutinizing glare Leifiel was looking at him with. "One: If I had told you earlier, someone could've overheard us and that is something I'd like to avoid. Two: You never accept any invites from me, so I thought that maybe if you've seen the place with your own eyes, you'll accept!"
"And three: You have to admit; whatever big flashy thing you were supposed to do, those bats just aren't worth the time and effort. Not to mention energy, am I right?" Dylan turned to look around the room they're in and found a passageway ahead of them. "You'll want to explore this place in tip-top condition as long as possible, right?"

This place? Dylan didn't want others to know about this place? Leifiel would have to admit; that was intriguing. Why would Dylan do that? Normally, someone would've let the city administrators know that a place like this existed under Alfya!
"...What reason do you have to withhold this information from the city administrators, your own superiors?" Leifiel suddenly asked, his tone different from just a second ago. "Why have me accompany you on this exploration? Aren't your militia allies more than suited for this than a student such as I?"

Great, the kid is tenacious AND sharp. Dylan wasn't exactly planning on telling him his reasons so soon, but there went the question. His expression twisted into a thinking frown. What should he tell him? Not that he had any sort of proof for anything yet.
"Trust me; I have my own reasons that I can't tell you right now." Dylan said finally as he headed for the passageway that led out of the room they're in. "Besides, if this is just an ordinary cavern, then we'd have wasted resources for an official exploration team. It's better this way."
He paused by the entryway and took a peek out to the sides. Dark and silent, as usual; they'd have to thread carefully if they wouldn't want to disturb anything that lived in the caverns. "Well..." he turned towards Leifiel and gestured to the passageway. "Shall we be going?"

Dylan was hiding something; that much was obvious. However, even if he were to confront him about that, Leifiel would have no means to prove if Dylan was lying or not. He had no choice but to accept the militia man's flimsy reasoning, even though he had to agree about the waste of resources part. The militia men were better off deployed elsewhere that's worthwhile.
Leifiel gave Dylan a scrutinizing stare as he followed after him and waited until Dylan was done with the inspection of the next area. If there's one thing the steak-loving maniac is good for, it's ensuring the safety of his companions. Still, there's one thing left unresolved.
"All right. I'll go with what you've said." Leifiel replied as he headed for the passageway. "By the way, since you've insisted on taking me to this place, I now have a legitimate reason to blame you for everything should any untoward incidents befall me!" he said smugly as he walked on through the passageway ahead of Dylan.

"You're really not going to let me win, eh?" Dylan replied, shrugging and letting out an amused sigh. However, when he noticed that Leifiel was going to go on ahead of him, the militia man immediately went and reached out just in time to grab the kid's wrist and stopped him.
"Oh, no." Dylan hissed in mild annoyance as he walked until he was standing in front of Leifiel, blocking his way. "What did I just say? Didn't I say not to go off on your own?" He was determined to have this little expedition go well, even with the slight delays, with both of them alive and in one piece and it was evident on his expression.

The hall-like cavern that was connected to the room they were in was covered with what Leifiel could identify as cut stone. Judging by how well-built the structure was, despite the aged look, the cavern would have to serve an important function. An emergency shelter perhaps? It was a question that could be answered by investigating the area.
Leifiel was just about to do that when he felt a hand grip his wrist. Surprised, he turned around, flashing his wandlight at the source of the hand, which turned out to be Dylan. "Let go---!" he began to protest, pulling his hand away, but for some reason, the militia man's grip was like steel.
"Oh, no." Dylan hissed in mild annoyance as he walked until he was standing in front of Leifiel, blocking his way. "What did I just say? Didn't I say not to go off on your own?"
Leifiel made a small whine of protest as he still tried to pull his hand out and away from Dylan's grip. It was futile though. "I can handle myself...Thank you!" he replied through gritted teeth.

"So you say." Dylan answered coolly yet he didn't ease his grip around Leifiel's wrist. He did take care not to accidentally break the kid's wrist though. "But we're here on my terms." he continued with a wink.
"Really, kid. We're a team right now." he said as he started walking, taking Leifiel along with him. "It's not that bad, working together. You should give it a try!" This place looked well-built.
Too well-built.

Dylan wouldn't let him go, no matter how much he tried to pry the militia man's fingers off of his wrist. Would he have to burn the man's fingers off? The idea sounded tempting. Very tempting.
Leifiel made a small startled yelp when Dylan started walking down the corridor and tried to match the militia man's strides. His breath was starting to quicken as the effort of keeping up with Dylan is a little too much for him.
"I *huff* under...understand---!" Leifiel was practically panting as he talked. "Must *huff* you really need *wheeze* to lead me by the hand?"

"Of course!" came Dylan's reply, although his strides became noticeably shorter. "You might run off by yourself again; you wouldn't want to get lost in unfamiliar territory now, would you?"
They went on further into the cavern with Leifiel's wandlight as their only source of light. Dylan had figured that there should be some torches on the walls by now, but there was none. Odd.
The cavern widened and the two found a pair of doors, one each on opposite sides of the cavern. Silently, Dylan ushered Leifiel to the side behind him as he took out one of his handguns. Gingerly, he reached over and felt the doorknob.
It appeared safe and unlocked, for now, so Dylan gripped it tightly and quickly swung it open, pulling his hand back in case he'd triggered a trap.

Dammit, he is going to pass out from exhaustion faster this way! It took great effort for Leifiel to catch up with Dylan. Getting dragged along wasn't helping him any.
It was especially hard to agree with Dylan, even more when Leifiel knew he was right. Instead of a retort, the little redhead felt some relief when Dylan walked significantly slower. He couldn't even manage a snarky comment because he was busy catching his breath.
Now that he could walk normally (save for the hand-holding), Leifiel could focus on looking at their surroundings. The cavern looked the same until they came to a wider section, wherein Dylan noticed the two doors standing opposite each other.
As Dylan followed protocol about investigating rooms, Leifiel didn't look the least bit interested with the process. It didn't help that Dylan seemed to make theatrics out of it. Once the door was thrown open and nothing came out of or triggered from the room, the little redhead took a peek, pointing his wandlight towards the room's interior and said, "Nothing."

Not a peep from the kid. It would be either he'd agreed with Dylan or he was too tired to even argue. Whichever the reason was, the silence was welcomed.
Once the door was thrown open and nothing came out of or triggered from the room, the little redhead took a peek, pointing his wandlight towards the room's interior and said, "Nothing."
Dylan wasn't about to just accept that and go. Carefully and with his gun held in front of him, he stepped into the door, performing a basic sweep in the room. It was just as Leifiel said; nothing. Literally. The room was empty.
"No kidding." Dylan said as he relaxed a little. "What do you think? Any theories for what this room could've been used for?" he asked Leifiel.

The room was fairly large and very much bare, save for the dust and cobwebs. Now that Dylan had made the room safe to enter, Leifiel joined him inside.
Leifiel waved his wandlight around, illuminating the corners and took a good look. Nothing to see with the naked eye, but what if...? He crouched on one knee and held his hand out towards the dusty floor. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and tried to scan the room.
After a few minutes, Leifiel opened his eyes and stood up. "I cannot say." he said in reply to Dylan's question. "This room hasn't been used in a long time. Although..." He gave the room another look-over. "There's a very high probability that this was used primarily as a storage room."
