Quinn's words had the desired effect, and Peter beamed proudly as he was praised. Yay!~
"Hmm...Maybe a small mechanism with wires? So they're pulled back into special recesses. We'd have to use cogs for it, but it wouldn't just be cogs, if it's too complicated, it could jam. Something simple..." He began puzzling over a design in his head. Hmmm.
He chuckled as his father seemed caught off guard about the lights suggestion. "We wouldn't need to light both... Though the glare from the eye lights might obscure it's vision, maybe the whisker lights are better? They're not right in it's vision but they can be bright enough to light up the path? We can set it so they have different levels of brightness?"

But of course, Quinn was happy to see his son so proud. He would reach out and gently ruffle the boy's hair. Always a show of pride--in the most fatherly ways he could think of.
He listened closely to the idea. It seemed that his son had caught onto the difficulty of such a mechanism as well. "I do like the idea of the wired mechanism. Perhaps something using a steam-actuated piston? They're less likely to jam. the only difficulty may be finding a piston of the right size." He'd thought that idea through thoroughly. "It would also allow for an exact timing for the claws instead of each one coming in and out at different times, which also comes with the cogs."
He gave an appraising look. It seemed his son had thought through on the eyelights as well. "Good point. That's using your noodle there--I hadn't really thought about the glare the eyelights would cast in the kitty's field of vision. And an adjustable brightness setting? I'd expect no less from you. Good for lighting enough for it to sneak around as a cat when it just wants to be a cat and doesn't have to be our light through the dark of night, and adjusting to brighter in case someone like you or Matthew needs to see in some dark part of the house." Here he reached to ruffle Peter's hair once again, like the proud papa he was.

He let out a small noise as he was patted on the head, and tried to fix his hair before focusing on the next issue.
"For a steam articulated piston, we'd need a pressure chamber and a water reservoir for the steam to be developed in." He said. "For something so small, it seems like overkill. The piston idea itself is good, though."
He grinned as he learned that he thought of something his dad didn't and was too slow to dodge the second hair ruffle, laying his chin on the table as he gave up on keeping his hair in a semblance of order. Now he knows how all the Megamen feel.
